It's reported that he US steelmakers such as Nucor announced to raise the medium heavy plate prices by US$50/short ton early this August, driven by rising scrap prices.
In fact, the medium heavy plate prices had dropped to US$780~US$800/short ton in the US market, decreasing by US$160/short ton from mid-March.
However, the US steelmakers did not raise the contract prices for September after the price rise in early August due to fierce price competition against the cheap imports.
At present, the quotes of the commodity grade medium heavy plates imported from Houston port are at US$720~US$740/short ton CIF, US$60/short ton lower than the prices offered by local mills.
